PORT DOVER – The Port Dover Yacht Club Sailing School’s fundraising efforts are off to a great start for the 2012 season thanks to two donations from local groups.
The Port Dover Yacht Club Racing Division donated $1,000 to the sailing school to assist with unexpected costs from the 2011 keelboat program.
The racing division approved the motion at its Annual General Meeting last week in Port Dover.
In addition, the Waterford and District Lions Club donated $100 to the sailing school following a presentation by Lisa and Scott Marr at the club’s December meeting.
“This kind of support is a welcome surprise,” said Marr.
“We have a long wish list of new equipment for our school as well as the need to replenish our sponsorship fund to send financially disadvantaged kids to our sailing school. This will give us a kickstart to hopefully get some of these wishes realized.”
The Port Dover Yacht Club Sailing School is a division of the not-for-profit Port Dover Yacht Club. It runs Ontario Sailing-certified programs each year from the Port Dover Harbour Marina.
