Welcome to the Port Dover Yacht Club Sailing School
The Port Dover Yacht Club sailing school is a not-for-profit organization that serves Haldimand, Norfolk, Brant and Brantford and beyond. We are committed to ensuring that you will come to love sailing as much as we do by raising the profile of the sport in our region and making it as accessible as possible.
The Port Dover Yacht Club has effectively encouraged and trained sailors of all ages and abilities for thanks to donations by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Rotary Club of Simcoe and the dedication of a group of volunteers. The school provides Ontario Sailing certified courses from White Sail I to Bronze IV.
NEW THIS YEAR: Stay tuned for details about an exciting new dinghy race program for youth and adults.
We are now running our sailing program at the Port Dover Harbour Marina in cooperation with Norfolk County.
PDYC Sailing School in partnership with Ontario Sailing is proud to offer a new Canadian Yachting Association curriculum called CANSail.
From CYA:
Over the last few years, CYA and the Provincial Sailing Associations have worked to revise and refine the systems and programs that develop sailors from entry level to competency and to membership of provincial and national sailing teams. Under the framework of Long Term Sailor Development*, every aspect of sailing development has been examined to ensure age and developmental stage-appropriate progression of learning and experience of sailing as a fun and active lifestyle path. We have reviewed and revised, where necessary, the developing sailor competition structure, the make-up of national and provincial sailing teams, the sailing instructor and coach development programs and the sailor learning and development standards.
The revised learn to sail system is called CANSail. Talk to your sailing instructor about this new program, an exciting update on the previous White Sail/Bronze programs that emphasizes long-term skill development over passing levels.
